MANCHESTER — A Leeds woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries suffered when her car rammed into a tree on Western Avenue Friday.

Angela Kreiton, 28, is being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she is listed in critical condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A passenger, Michael Jones, 30, also of Leeds, was taken to the same hospital with what was believed to be a non-life threatening arm injury, said Corp. G.J. Neagle of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. as Kreiton drove her 2001 Subaru Impreza two-door east on U.S. Route 202. Just west of the Pelton Hill Road intersection, the Subaru veered left across the westbound lane and struck a tree, Neagle said. The car caromed off the tree and sailed another 20 yards before stopping.

Neither Kreiton nor Jones was wearing a seat belt, Neagle said, and both airbags went off. The car was destroyed.

Police don’t know what caused the car to veer out of its lane, but are still investigating, Neagle said.
