The 111th Reunion of the Wing Family of America, hosted by the Wing Assembly of Maine, was held recently in Portland and Wayne.

More than 175 Wing family descendants from the United States and Canada were in attendance. The agenda included the annual banquet with entertainment by Maine humorist Gary Crocker, and a motor coach tour to Wayne, attended by more than 120 people. Highlights of this tour included a presentation at the North Wayne Schoolhouse hosted by Linda McKee, chairperson of Wayne’s Schoolhouse Preservation Steering Committee; and, a tour, conducted by costumed docents, of the Allen Wing Homestead, which has been restored by current owner, Laura Briggs. Attendees also visited the Wing “Ring” Cemetery where re-enactors, dressed as departed Wing ancestors, told of the history of the Wing family in Wayne.

Each fall, the Wing Assembly of Maine holds its day-long reunion in different locations around the state. The annual meeting of the Wing Assembly of Maine will be held on Sept. 14 in Strong. All Wing descendants are welcome to attend.
