AUGUSTA — Drawn-out contract negotiations between the Augusta school board and the district employees’ union could be resolved Wednesday.

The school board is scheduled to vote on contracts for the teachers, support staff and custodial units of the Augusta Education Association, which met today to ratify the tentative agreements.

They have been working without contracts and received small raises in previous contracts, leading to low morale among the employees, school officials have said.

The school board is scheduled to meet in the Hussey Elementary gymnasium at 7 p.m. They will go into executive session to discuss the negotiations before voting on the contracts.

The contract for the teachers covers 2012–15. School district and union leaders did not respond to requests for more information today.

Interim Superintendent James Anastasio said by email that the association and school board Chairwoman Susan Campbell will provide a joint statement after the vote and that he expects the contracts to be approved.

Neither Anastasio, Campbell nor Augusta Education Association President Jeff DeJongh returned calls today.
