FARMINGTON — Selectmen unanimously approved hiring four new town employees and appointing an interim Mt. Blue school board director Tuesday evening.
Stephen Millett, of Dublin, Ohio, was hired as the new wastewater superintendent with a starting annual salary of $53,000.
Town Manager Richard Davis said Millett has an associate degree in computer technology and is working in Maine as a field technician for Ohio-based Ashland Chemical Company.
Selectmen also hired three part-time employees for the police department.
Kevin Bremmer, a landscape business owner from Farmington, and Dean Robinson, a firefighter and part-time security guard from Jay, were hired as part-time parking enforcement to work five to seven hours per week. Police Chief Jack Peck said he did not have the wage rate on hand, but estimated it to be $11.50 per hour.
The police department has been without parking enforcement workers for months, Peck told the board, and said they are needed.
Kyle Ellis, a former Franklin County Sheriff’s Department dispatcher, was hired as a part-time secretary for the department.
Peck told selectmen that their former part-time secretary, Mary Hastings, was hired at the district attorney’s office as a secretary 6 weeks ago and they have been in need of a replacement.
Peck said he is unsure how often Ellis will be needed to work at the department and said he will fill in when their full-time secretary is out of the office.
Selectmen also approved hiring former chairman of the selectboard Stephen Bunker as an interim school board director at Mt. Blue School District.
The seat was vacated earlier this year when former director Eric Gilbert moved to Jay and was no longer eligible to represent Farmington on the board.
