Three charged after UMF party broken up

FARMINGTON — Three people were charged with violating liquor laws after police broke up a large party near the University of Maine at Farmington late Thursday.

Two 22-year-old students were charged with class D furnishing a place for a minor to consume liquor after police found a large party at their High Street apartment that allegedly involved minors. If found guilty, the charge can carry up to a $2,000 fine.

There were about 30 or 40 people at the party, which spilled out into the lawn, said Farmington Police secretary Bonnie Pomeroy.

David Berthiaume, of Allenstown, N.H., and Kevin B. Walsh, of Milton, Mass., were charged by Sgt. Edward Hastings and Officer Derrick Doucette.

Officer Michael Raymond also charged 19-year-old Shane O’Neill with a misdemeanor charge of consuming alcohol while underage. Pomeroy said police did not charge anyone else because some were over the legal drinking age and other people fled the scene of the party when they saw the officers arrive.
