MADISON — Derek LeBlanc hit a two-run single with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning as Madison earned a 7-5 victory over Winthrop in Mountain Valley Conference baseball action Monday afternoon.

Madison (5-9) is now 10th in the Western C Heal points. The top 10 teams qualify for the tournament.

Madison led 5-1 after five innings, but Winthrop (6-6) rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score. In the bottom of the sixth, Jack Money and Briar Edgerly singled before LeBlanc’s two-run single.

Edgerly and Ryan Emery each had two hits for Madison. Ben Allen, Dakota Carter, and Bennett Brooks had two hits apiece for Winthrop.

MONMOUTH 2, CARRABEC 1: In a game with only three hits combined, the Mustangs scored a run in the top of the seventh to squeak by the Cobras in North Anson.

Nate Gagne and Brett Wilson combined on a one-hitter for Monmouth (13-1), while tough-luck losing pitcher Dustin Crawford tossed a two-hitter for Carrabec (6-6).

Jariah Caissie and Jake Weeks each singled for Monmouth. Carrabec’s hit was a single by Trent Richardson.

HALL-DALE 7, TELSTAR 1: Brian Allen banged out three singles and a double as the Bulldogs defeated the Rebels in Bethel.

Allen drove in two runs, while Quinn Stebbins singled three times and Ryan Sinclair had two hits.

Sinclair, Allen, and Bobby Cumler combined on a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts for Hall-Dale (7-6). Telstar is 1-11.

SOFTBALL

MONMOUTH 12, CARRABEC 5: The Mustangs scored 10 runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings on their way to the MVC win in North Anson.

Sabrina Beck and Kylie Kemp each had three hits for Monmouth (9-3). Kemp also drove in three runs. Haley Fletcher and winning pitcher Becki Bryant each chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Brooklynne Lewis and Liberty Chestnut each drove in a run for Carrabec (5-7).

HALL-DALE 5, TELSTAR 2: The Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning and led the entire way in a key victory over the Rebels in Bethel.

Becca Ackerson and Olivia Maynard combined on a four-hitter for Hall-Dale (11-2). The BUlldogs have won nine in a row and are second in the Western C Heal points.

Olivia Maynard and Kayla Johnson each drove in two runs for Hall-Dale. Jessica Dirago allowed five hits and struck out 12 for Telstar (8-4).
