Students at Readfield Elementary School recently painted a recycling bullet with a design of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” The school submitted the winning design to a contest offered by EcoMaine, Recycling is A Work of Art. The school was given a $500 grant to use for paint supplies. The project was coordinated by Readfield art teacher Betsy Allen McPhedran. Every child in the school had a hand in painting the silver recycling bullet — gifted and talented students Rose Jenkins, Addie Watson, Sophia Tweedie, and Sonjia Hirsch were able to put in extra time on the project. Finishing touches were added by Readfield literacy teacher and fiber artist Jennifer Shaw.
