AUGUSTA — A 50th wedding anniversary celebration was held in the Community Room at Cushnoc Heights on June 28, 2014, for Raymond Gotreau and Arlene Smiley Yeaton Gotreau.

The couple met while working at Bates Mill in Augusta. They were married in a civil ceremony officiated by the Rev. Musk of Green Street Methodist Church, on June 27, 1964. Their marriage was blessed by Father Valmont Gilbert at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Nov. 4, 1978.

The Gotreaus were cornerstone parishioners of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church where Raymond was head usher for many years. They spent countless hours working at Le Club Calumet in the coatroom, and at summer festivals. Raymond spent many hours at the club after retirement from Hannaford Brothers on Willow Street. Arlene retired from Key Bank in Augusta.

Children from previous marriages and their spouses were present. They are Betty and Richard Harvey, Linda Belisle and partner Myron Long, Lucille and Roger Mills, Ronald and Jeannine Gotreau, and Jerry and Sharon Gotreau.

Roger Mills proposed a toast to congratulate the couple along with cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Music, refreshments, punch and cakes were served. After receiving a host of well wishes, the couple retreated to their apartment with gifts, cards and many memories.
