AUGUSTA — Police arrested a New York City man on multiple charges and are looking for an area woman after they surrounded a taxi on Western Avenue with guns drawn Wednesday.

William K. Seabron, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested after the taxi was stopped on Western Avenue on Wednesday morning, said Deputy Chief Jared Mills of the Augusta Police Department in a news release.

Audra Purington, 37, who previously listed addresses in Dresden and Farmingdale, is wanted in connection with the department’s investigation, Mills said.

Seabron was wanted in connection with a purse theft on July 1 at Walmart on Civic Center Drive, Mills said.

Police stopped the taxi in the Whitten Road area of Western Avenue shortly after it was called to pick up two men at a nearby hotel. Police didn’t say how they knew Seabron was in the cab.

Seabron was charged with robbery, marijuana trafficking, theft by unauthorized taking, seven counts of misuse of credit identification and unlawful possession of drugs, Mills said.

Seabron was taken to the Kennebec County jail, where he is being held on $20,000 cash bail, Mills said.

He asked that anyone with information on her whereabouts can call Augusta Police Detective Christopher Blodgett at 207-626-2370, extension 3422.
