PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will receive $50,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to help open a facility dedicated to visual arts in northern Maine.
The university is working with city officials, building owners, the Wintergreen Arts Center and others to turn a State Street property into the Northern Maine Center for the Cultural Arts. University officials say the grant will bring the project closer to reality.
The State Street building currently houses the Wintergreen Arts Center and will include the university’s Downtown Art Gallery and Art Studio Space. University officials say the property will house rotating exhibition displays, guest lectures, performances and workshops.
