A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon following a rollover accident in China.

The accident was first reported near the China transfer station on Alder Park Road around 3 p.m, according to Deputy Derek Wing of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

He said the driver, whose name was not released, was driving east toward Route 3 when her car went off the road onto the shoulder.

Wing said the teenager overcorrected, causing the car to veer and then roll over before coming to a stop on its roof on the side of the road. He said the girl was the only occupant in the tan Ford Focus.

In order to get her out of the car, rescue workers had to use a hydraulic extraction tool to pry open the mangled side of the car and remove the door.

The car was destroyed and towed from the scene.

The teenager was alert and conscious, said Wing, and taken to the hospital by Delta Ambulance with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
