AUGUSTA — A South Portland man who sought treatment at MaineGeneral Medical Center for an injury to his hand declined to cooperate with police or press charges against whoever caused his injury.

Sgt. Christopher Shaw said Bladimir Perez, 21, came to MaineGeneral with a “substantial injury” to his right hand around 4:15 p.m. but refused to tell hospital staff how it occurred.

Hospital officials called in police to investigate.

Shaw said Perez and others with him were evasive about what had happened, saying only he had been robbed on State Street and cash was taken.

Perez was treated and released from the hospital.

He did not want to pursue charges, and there are no suspects in the incident, Shaw said.
