Hats off to those who organized the second annual Sprint Triathlon in Skowhegan on Sept. 14. This partnership drew hundreds of people from all over New England. Several dozen local people — including my own wife and friends — spent the summer training for the event while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. We all should be proud.

The race began at the Eastside Boat launch of Lake George where participants swam one-quarter mile to the west shore. Here, participants transitioned to their bikes, for a 15-mile bike ride to Somerset Sports and Fitness, via Oak Pond Road, East River Road and Waterville Road. Then athletes began a 3.6-mile out-and-back run that took the runners by New Balance, through neighborhoods and on the River Walk.

To the crew at Lake George Regional Park, Somerset Sports and Fitness and organizing committee, I offer a hearty thanks.
