BRUNSWICK — Halfback Will Bessey and fullback Alex Bandouveres rushed for nearly 350 yards between them as Brunswick bounced back from its first loss of the season with a convincing 34-14 win against Lawrence in a Pine Tree Conference Class B football game Friday night.

Bessey scored on runs of 63 and 17 yards and Bandouveres scored on a 27-yard run as the Dragons ran their record to a 6-1 to remain alone atop the PTC B standings.

After falling behind 20-0 less than 13 minutes into the game, the Bulldogs (5-2) rallied in the second quarter to close the gap.

Mitchell Cushing scored on a 9-yard run and quarterback Cody Martin threw an 83-yard scoring pass to Dustin Simpson-Bragg as Lawrence closed to 20-14.

“It was a real competitive game,” Lawrence coach John Hersom said. “I told my kids I was really proud of the way they played.”

The Dragons regained control of the game when Bessey scored on a 17-yard run to cap a six-play, 80-yard scoring drive following the second-half kickoff.

With less than four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Hunter Garrett returned an intercepted pass 33 yards to complete the scoring.
