Recently appointed city of Augusta firefighters at Hartford Station on Tuesday, Dec. 2, from left, are Nicky Santy, Brian Michaud, Patrick Underwood and Jeremy Manzer. The medics are scheduled to be sworn in on Dec. 19 after a month-long probationary fire academy period, according to Fire Chief Roger Audette. “The Augusta Fire Department responds to 6,000 emergency calls a year. The training that is required to be able to respond here is tremendous. The city of Augusta has an airport, a major highway, major river and a large demand for EMS that requires our personnel to be fully trained on all phases of the job. I am so impressed by this group of firefighters and the mix of education training and experience that they bring to our department,” Audette said in a statement.
