UNITY — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust, in conjunction with the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, will host a snowshoe hike, Duck Box Valentine Trek, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, on an established trail onto Kanokolus Bog.

While on the Bog, participants can open the Trust’s duck boxes — to check for last year’s nesting success, make minor repairs and get them ready for the upcoming return of wood ducks and mergansers, according to a news release from the Trust. The boxes were built and installed by a local Scout troop in 2013.

Participants should provide their own snowshoes and be prepared for up to 1.5 miles on the trail. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, though owners should be prepared to leash their dogs upon request. The Trust will provide hot cocoa and Valentine’s Day cookies after the trek. The event should wrap up by 12:30 p.m.

Participants should meet at the trailhead parking for Kanokolus Bog Preserve, adjacent to 700 Albion Road. The preserve is approximately 3.6 miles from the intersection of Waterville Road and Route 9.
