The Monmouth Lions Club held its 2015 Speak-Out event March 16 at the United Church of Monmouth, Packard Activity Center.

Winners include Angus Koller, who placed first and received a $60 award for his speech about volunteer firefighting; Kim Lewis, who placed second and received $50 for her speech on military deployment; and Jordyn Mann, who placed third and received $40 for her speech on lessons from pets. They all attend Monmouth Academy, according to a news release from the Lions Club.

Judges were Lions Archie Wing, Debbie Sanborn and Amanda Angell.

At the end of each speech the contestants were asked questions by Lions Tim McDonald and Merton Dearnley.

Speeches were evaluated in three categories: delivery of speech, material and response to the questions, according to the release.

Chairperson Guy Piper commended the students on a job well done. Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt were commended for their hard work and dedication to students at Monmouth Academy and Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out Program.
