WATERVILLE — Third-ranked Middlebury College scored five unanswered goals in the opening 18 minutes, 14 seconds and then held on for a 7-5 win over No. 2 Colby College at Bill Alfond Field on Saturday.

Laurel Pascal had three goals while Mary O’Connell chipped in two goals and an assist for the Panthers (8-1, 5-1 NESCAC). Abby Hatch led the Mules (9-2, 4-2) with two goals and two assists. Abby Hooper also had two goals while Claire Dickson made nine stops in net for Colby.

UM-FARMINGTON 16, GREEN MOUNTAIN 6: Ayla Allen lit up the nets for six goals to lead the Beavers to their first North Atlantic Conference win over Green Mountain College in Waterville.

Carly Raymond and Rhi Jackson each notched a pair of goals for UMF (2-5, 1-2 NAC). Patty Smith made four stops in goal.

THOMAS 7, COLBY-SAWYER 6: Gardiner’s Jenn Day scored the game-winning goal with 8:33 left as Thomas rallied from a 5-3 halftime deficit to defeat Colby-Sawyer in Waterville.

Day and Erin Nelligan finished with three goals apiece for the Terriers (5-2, 4-1 NAC). Allie McCarthy registered five saves in net.

MEN’S LACROSSE

MIDDLEBURY 15, COLBY 12: Middlebury emerged from a game with seven lead changes to hold off Colby in a NESCAC match in Middlebury, Vt.

Austin Sayre led Colby with three goals, while Mark Phillips and Sam Wasserman notched two apiece for the Mules (6-4, 2-4 NESCAC). Tyler Will made 22 saves in goal for Colby.

SOUTHERN MAINE 10, SALEM STATE 7: Jaymz McStowe scored a hat trick to lead USM to a Little East Conference win over Salem State in Salem, Mass.

Gardiner’s Keegan Smith, Tyler Jamison and Seth Wing each added a goal along with Messalonskee graduate Nate DelGiudice. Smith also had two assists and DelGiudice one for the Huskies (5-2, 1-1 LEC). Former Maranacook/Winthrop goalie Zach Bessette made eight saves in net for USM. Alex Pearson had three goals for Salem State.

CASTLETON 18, HUSSON 2: Castleton scored 30 seconds into the game and never trailed in a North Atlantic Conference win over Husson in Castleton, Vt.

Zach Glazier, of Winthrop, and Marc Roy scored for Husson (4-4, 3-1 NAC).

GREEN MOUNTAIN 6, UMF 4: Nick Parsons scored the last three goals to help Green Mountain College rally from a 4-3 deficit in Waterville.

Tom McGowan scored twice for the Beavers (0-9, O-4 NAC) while Cameron McAllister and Casey Wrigley, formerly of Messalonskee, also found the back of the net. Joseph Maldonado made 11 saves in net for UMF.

BASEBALL

COLBY 7-6, TRINITY 0-3: Tommy Forese homered twice and doubled in the first game while Dan Csaplar had three hits and drove in three runs in the nightcap to give the Mules a pair of wins in Hartford, Conn.

Soren Hanson threw a complete game for Colby (11-4, 2-1 NESCAC) in the opener, fanning six, walking two and allowing just four hits. Greg Ladd earned the win in the second game, striking out two in five innings of work.

SOFTBALL

TRINITY 7, COLBY 5: Meaghan Lewia homered for the third straight game but Colby couldn’t protect a five-run lead and fell to Trinity in Hartford, Conn.

Trinity scored six runs in the sixth inning to overcome the 5-0 deficit. Emily Schatz had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Colby, while Katie McLaughlin added two hits and two runs for the Mules.
