AUGUSTA — Two local men were arrested on robbery charges Friday night after allegedly lying in wait for a man in a Laurel Street apartment, and robbing him when he arrived.

Tyler Wayne Robinson, 26, of Augusta, was charged with robbery, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, unlawful possession of a scheduled drug and a probation hold, according to a news release from the Augusta Police Department Saturday night.

Samuel R. Smith, 25, also of Augusta, was arrested and charged with robbery, according to police records.

Police said in the release Saturday night that they believe narcotics were involved in the robbery, which was reported at 9:57 p.m. Friday.

Police said the apartment resident, whom they didn’t name in the release, entered the Laurel Street residence to find guns drawn on him.

He was told to “remove items from his person,” police said, and then was allowed to leave.

Laurel Street is a short street that runs from State to Water Street just north of downtown.

No other information was available Saturday night.
