Madison native Seth Sweet helped Old Dominion University tie for sixth place at the Conference USA golf championships this week in Texarkana, Ark. A junior with the Monarchs, Sweet shot a three-day score of 225 and finished in a tie for 35th place, the middle of the pack.

Old Dominion’s team score of 888 tied Middle Tennessee for sixth place, 27 strokes off of winner North Texas.

It was a solid spring season for Sweet, who won the Maine Amateur tournament in 2012 at Sunday River. In mid-April, Sweet shot a two-day score of 145 to place 21st in the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational. At the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate tournament in March, Sweet’s three-day score of 225 helped the Monarchs place 13th in a field of 30 teams.

At the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate tournament at Palm Desert, Calif., in February, Sweet led Old Dominion with a three day score of 223, finishing tied for 38th in a field of 127 golfers.

Sweet now lives in Savannah, Ga., and competed in the Georgia Amateur last summer. Sweet finished tied for 23rd, but shot a two under 68 on the first day of the tournament.
