WESTERN NEW ENGLAND UNIVERSITY

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Caitlynn M. Barrows, of South China, received the Garver Award and the Honor Graduate in Neuroscience Award at the College Honors Ceremonies at Western New England University. Sheralee Tershner, chairman and professor of neuroscience, presented the award.

Graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in neuroscience, Barrows is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society.

While attending a Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Barrows worked with Dr. Edgar Walters examining nociceptive plasticity in aplysia (sea slugs). Her research was funded by the National Science Foundation through the REU program which supports active research participation of undergraduate students.

Western New England University is a private, independent, coeducational institution founded in 1919. Located on an attractive 215-acre suburban campus in Springfield, Massachusetts, Western New England serves 3,965 students, including 2,575 full-time undergraduate students.
