Three people were taken to two different hospitals Sunday afternoon after a head-on collision on Waterville Road in Norridgewock, police said.

The drivers of both vehicles involved in the accident were trapped in their cars and had to be removed by rescue workers, said Cpl. Eugene Cole of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported shortly before 3 p.m. on Waterville Road, which is Route 139, just before the Fairfield town line.

Betty Cichocki, 64, of Mercer, was driving west in a 2011 Kia station wagon when she crossed the center line, Cole said. The station wagon hit a 1999 Buick Regal driven by Donna Baker, 61, of Madison.

The accident remains under investigation, but Cole said Cichocki told police she was tired and may have blacked out. Baker and a passenger in her car, Michelle Thibodeau, 45, were taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

Cichocki was taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville, Cole said. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, he said.

It was not clear Sunday whether there would be any charges in the accident. Deputy Don Avery of the sheriff’s department is the lead investigator in the case.

The Norridgewock Fire Department, Redington-Fairview EMS and Anson Madison Starks Ambulance Service responded.
