AUGUSTA — The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine and the Gardiner Area High School Drama Club will present a collection of scenes from “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett in commemoration of Kristallnacht, The Night of Broken Glass. The performance is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at the Michael Klahr Center, University of Maine at Augusta campus at 46 University Drive.

“The Diary of Anne Frank” is a theatrical adaptation of the world-famous book “The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank. As the Nazis gained power in Europe, many families were driven from their homeland. Those who did not flee were forced into hiding. The play, directed by Christina Benedict, offers insight into the hardships of the Frank family and their companions while hidden from 1942-44.

Kristallnacht was a two-day program of violence and terror carried out by the Nazis against the Jews on Nov. 9 and 10, 1938, in Germany, Austria and parts of Czechoslovakia. Nov. 9 will mark the 77th anniversary of that horrific event.

This program will run approximately one hour and is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

Full performances will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 5, 6 and 7 the GAHS Little Theater. Tickets cost $8 for adults, and $5 for student and seniors. Tickets are available at the door an via email request to cbenedict@msad11.org.
