AUGUSTA — Two city residents were arrested early Monday on drug charges following an investigation into reports of drug dealing taking place at a Ridge Road home.

William Joseph Young, 48, and Katelynn Marie McLaughlin, 22, each face charges of aggravated drug trafficking, Augusta police said in a news release Monday night.

Detective Nathan Walker, who was recently promoted to detective with a specific emphasis on illegal drug activity, executed a search warrant at the residence at 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Police reported seizing 45 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of nearly $7,000 and cash that police say was the result of drug transactions.

Young was being held at the Kennebec County jail in Augusta in lieu of $2,000. McLaughlin was not at the jail on Monday. Her bail had been set at $500.

“This investigation is another illustration of how the Augusta Police Department, with our newly acquired drug investigators, is working with the public and our partners to remove drug dealers and the poison they are selling from our city,” the release said.

Police asked that the public call Walker at 626-2370, ext. 3454, and Detective Matthew Estes at 626-2370, ext. 3435, with any information of illegal drug activity.
