An Augusta woman who used several names and moved around the area frequently was arrested Thursday by Skowhegan police on a variety of drug charges.

Laura Anderson, 50, was arrested in Augusta with the assistance of the Augusta Police Department and is charged with acquiring drugs by deception, a class D offense. She is being held in the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bond, according to a news release from Skowhegan police Chief Don Bolduc.

Skowhegan police received a complaint Monday that a woman was using a false name to acquire drugs in the Skowhegan area, according to the release. The woman, who had checked into the Trinity Homeless Shelter under a false name, had gone to local doctors and used false names to receive prescription drugs, the release said.

Police found that the woman, later determined to be Anderson, used the names Ann Spellman, Mae Anderson and others.

Officer Katelyn Treylino and Detective Joshua King determined she had moved on to Waterville and, after they interviewed people in Waterville, they learned she had since moved on to Augusta.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.
