AUGUSTA — Cody Laweryson had a big night with 31 points —including the 1,000th of his career — and 25 rebounds as the Valley boys basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Richmond 69-61 Wednesday at the Augusta Civic Center.

Laweryson scored his 1,000th point on a layup as part of an 18-9 fourth quarter run that brought the Cavaliers back from a 52-51 deficit.

“It was a big hoop,” Valley coach Jason Hartwell said. “It was a tight game the whole way and we had to pull away late.”

Austin Cates added 22 points for Valley (17-0). Zach Small led the Bobcats (11-6) with 17 points while Zack Marseglia chipped in with 16 points.

WINTHROP 74, TELSTAR 40: Jacob Hickey scored 29 points and Garrett Tsouprake added 12 as the Ramblers rolled to the Mountain Valley Conference win in Winthrop.

Hickey finished with five rebounds, three assists and four steals while Tsouprake had 10 rebounds.

Tanner Wheeler scored 12 points for Telstar.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

RICHMOND 42, VALLEY 22: Sydney Tilton had 14 points, 17 rebounds and six steals and the Bobcats held the Cavaliers scoreless in the fourth quarter on their way to the East/West Conference win at the Augusta Civic Center.

Meranda Martin added seven points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals for Richmond (16-2) while Ashley Abbott and Kelsea Anair each scored eight points.

Valley (8-10) was led by Samantha West with 10 points and Haven Mayhew with six.

MADISON 72, WISCASSET 22: Kayla Bess scored 16 points and Lauren Hay added 13 as the Bulldogs cruised in an MVC game played Tuesday in Wiscasset.

Sydney LeBlanc scored nine points for Madison (11-6) as well.

Wiscasset dropped to 3-14.

BOYS HOCKEY

CONY/HALL-DALE/MONMOUTH 3, LAWRENCE/SKOWHEGAN 1: The Rams scored three goals in the third period to earn the win at Sukee Arena in Winslow.

Riley Boivin had a goal and an assist for Cony (11-5-0) while Cole Lockhart and Drew Keithley had the other goals. Connor Perry, Nate Foye and Brett Sproul each had an assist. Dalton Bowie made 17 saves.

Sam Haver scored an unassisted goal for Lawrence/Skowhegan (4-9-0). Hunter Raye stopped 30 shots.

UNIFIED BASKETBALL

OAK HILL 32, POLAND 28: Lee Mower scored 14 points to spark the visiting Raiders to the win.

Marcel Trepainer added 10 points for Oak Hill (1-0).

Aleck Burnell led Poland with 13 points and Devin Yeaton chipped in six.
