SIDNEY — The 23rd annual Polar Bear Dip, hosted by the three-day Maine Pond Hockey Classic, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Snow Pond Center for the Arts.

The top dippers will receive jewelry from the hockey classic’s Prize Sponsor Day’s Jewelers. Awards will be given for most money raised, best costumes and most amusing dips as judged by the adjacent Beer Garden’s spectators. Everyone who dips gets free coffee and hot chocolate and will be presented with a Valentine flower and heart box of candy.

The hockey classic, with 34 teams in four divisions, will compete starting at 6 p.m. Friday. Competition will continue from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The finals will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Spectators can cheer their teams from the on-ice Beer Garden Players’ Lounge complete with bar food and drinks, ice candles and fire pits, blanketed benches and music. Available throughout the tournament is a community free skate rink, up for whatever games of corn-hole toss and hockey skills competitions in speed and accuracy.

Snow Pond will provide a warm building for changing out of wet costumes before attending the prize ceremony in the lodge.

Budweiser is sponsoring the Beer Garden and MaineGeneral Health is sponsoring the dip.

Proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville Kid’s Kitchen.
