South Parish Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its sanctuary; not the founding of the church but the glorious Gothic Revival-style structure we call our house of worship.
If you aren’t sure to which church I am referring, it is the stunning stone church, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, that sits at the intersection of State and Bridge streets. No doubt many of you have passed through its doors for a variety of reasons and have been witness to the magnificent sanctuary. No doubt you have carried away a reverence or a feeling for the humanity, compassion and love embraced within its walls.
We are requesting these same people to share with us those memories and experiences. We would like to collect the memories and put them in a compilation that we can share with parishioners, our visitors and our future worshipers. We believe this would be the most affecting and sincerest testament to the virtue and spiritual solidarity embodied in our sanctuary.
If you are one of those people, or know someone who has been as inspired, you can drop us a line at the church, or use our website, www.southparish.net, for more contact information. While visiting our site, take the opportunity to view upcoming events celebrating this occasion. Of course, you can always stop in and visit. We would be happy to hear from you.
