AUGUSTA — The Maine State Museum will celebrate Smithsonian magazine’s 12th annual Museum Day Live! from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.

Visitors can download a free ticket by visiting www.Smithsonian.com/museumday, according to a museum new release. One ticket per household is permitted. Participants must then present the ticket at the museum.

“Our visitors often think of the Maine State Museum as a kind of mini-Smithsonian,” said Museum Director Bernard Fishman, according to the release. “This is a compliment to both institutions and makes our participation in Museum Day a good fit for the Maine State Museum. Both museums use objects from nature and culture to enhance understanding and knowledge, and convey the incredible richness and diversity of the many kinds of worlds that surround us.”

Inclusive by design, the event represents the Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. The event also gives museums across the country the opportunity to offer free admission. Last year’s event drew more than 200,000 participants nationally and this year’s event promises to attract more museum-goers than ever before.
