It was a bit shocking to read Liz Soares’ column on Trump (”Trump win sparks fear for the environment — physical and social,” Nov. 17) not only for the hate, bigotry and intolerance that she spewed in her column but also the complete disrespect and disregard she has for anyone who does not think as she does.

Soares hopes that the new Iraqis that have come to Augusta feel welcomed, I wonder how many students at Cony who watch “Duck Dynasty” and whose parents undoubtedly voted for Trump truly feel welcomed and tolerated by Soares as the school librarian.

Lastly, as a proud liberal, in the traditional meaning of the word, from Boston, who grew up in a Democrat family, I find it particularly offensive that Soares implies that all of us are so intolerant of any lifestyle different from our own upbringing. Personally, I enjoy “Duck Dynasty” and I voted for Trump. As Ronald Reagan famously said “I did not leave the Democratic Party, the party left me.” This election has shown that those words are as true today as they were when Reagan first said them in 1962.
