AUGUSTA — The 28th anniversary of International World AIDS Day will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Thusday, Dec. 1, at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 69 Winthrop St.

The annual event is co-sponsored by MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Horizon Program, which serves HIV-positive people in mid-coast and central Maine.

The ceremony remembers and celebrates people affected by HIV and AIDS, both those who have died and those who are still with us. Music, poetry, prayer and candle lighting are part of the service, with a reception to follow. A panel from the AIDS quilt will be available for viewing.

The event is free.
