The forecast for snow has caused the Maine Principals’ Association to postpone Wednesday’s Class AA girls’ quarterfinals and shuffle its basketball tournament schedule.

Four Class AA girls’ quarterfinals were scheduled to be played at both the Augusta Civic Center and Portland Expo on Wednesday. They will now be made up on Thursday and Friday.

In Class AA North at the Augusta Civic Center, the girls’ quarterfinal games will be played on Thursday, resulting in time changes for the boys’ Class AA North quarterfinals as well.

The Cheverus-Bangor girls’ game will start Thursday at 4 p.m. followed by the Deering-Lewiston girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. The Cheverus-Oxford Hills boys’ game will now start at 7 p.m., followed by the Deering-Windham boys’ quarterfinal at 8:30 p.m.

In Class AA South at the Portland Expo, the Maine Girls’ Academy-Sanford girls’ quarterfinal will now be played at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, before the regularly scheduled boys’ Class AA South quarterfinals, which will start at 6 p.m.

The girls’ quarterfinal between Scarborough and Thornton Academy has been moved to Friday at 4:15 p.m., preceding the regularly scheduled Class A South boys’ quarterfinals, which will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Dick Durost, executive director of the MPA, said they were fortunate to have some leeway in the early days of the tournament schedule.

“It’s difficult to reschedule everywhere, but in Augusta in particular because we have four classes there,” he said. “We would have liked to have played (Wednesday) but feel we have a good plan in place.”

Wednesday’s preliminary round games in several classes also were postponed until Thursday. Durost said it is up to each school to decide whether to play or not.

“What we’ve told them is that if they lose (Wednesday), they’ve got to reschedule the games for Thursday,” he said. “If they lose Thursday, they better reschedule for Friday. They’ve got to find a way to get that game in before they go on to the next site.”

The MPA also announced that the girls’ hockey regional finals scheduled for Wednesday will be moved to Thursday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. Falmouth and Scarborough will meet for the South championship at 5 p.m. St. Dominic plays Greely for the North championship at 6:30 p.m.
