PORTLAND — The Craft Brew Race Portland will begin at noon Saturday, July 1, at Edward Payson Park. This year’s event will have the largest number of participating breweries in the history of the event, according to a news release from event orgnanizers.

The races is a combined running and beer-sampling event. It offers tickets that include both the 5K race and the festival, as well as festival-only tickets, designated driver tickets, and DD/5K tickets.

Forty-seven breweries will offer a variety of beer samples and alcoholic beverages. Of these breweries, 26 are based in Maine and many are from greater New England.

The day will start with a relaxed, but timed, 5K run (walkers are welcome) around Back Cove, following Baxter Boulevard and the Back Cove Trail with waterfront views throughout and finishing at the park, where the festival will begin at 12:30 p.m. Runners will receive a Portland Craft Brew Races finisher medal upon completion of the 3.1-mile course.

Runners and festival ticket holders can then attend a three-hour long craft beer festival. A number of food and goods vendors also will be selling on site. All festival-goers will receive a souvenir pint glass upon departure from the venue.

Event organizers recommend participants designate a sober driver or arrange transportation. Designated driver tickets will be offered where DDs can enjoy the festivals’ atmosphere, designated complimentary food and music, and offer safe rides home. The event is strictly 21 and older.
