CANAAN — Cody Clarke, of Canaan, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. A member of Canaan Troop 403 since 2004, Clarke, 18, has held many positions within the troop; assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, quartermaster, and den chief.

Community service projects are a large part of scouting. Advancement to the rank of Eagle Scout requires the scout to earn 21 merit badges, serve in a leadership role in the troop, and complete a service project in the community.

Clarke’s project was landscaping around the entrance signs at Lake George Regional Park. Clarke worked with business owners, volunteers, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to accomplish his goal.

Clarke, a senior at Skowhegan Area High School, is the son of Jeff and Cindy Clarke of Canaan. Clarke will attend college in the fall to study computer engineering.
