Kennebec Youth Hockey Association President Wendy Gagne said Monday the proceeds from a Sunday rally at the Kennebec Ice Arena will go to her organization.
Gagne said almost $2,500 was raised through raffles and a silent auction, but the money isn’t earmarked for a potential rebuilding effort.
“We’re trying to promote hockey in the area,” she said. “We put together the rally to show support for the KIA, and the KIA owners and staff. But we had the raffles added into it. There were two different causes.”
Gagne acknowledged there was some confusion regarding where the money raised Sunday was indeed going.
She said the money would go to the organization’s initiative to grow the game.
“We’re trying to clear it up because there was some miscommunication,” Gagne said. “The money will go toward growing the game. The money is going to build youth hockey in the area; maybe to assist families that don’t have equipment or can’t afford it.
The rally Sunday, held at the arena’s Hallowell parking lot on Whitten Road, drew more than 350 people.
KIA co-owner Peter Prescott said Sunday he hopes to rebuild the KIA, but a final decision won’t be made until details are worked out with the insurance company.
