WEST BATH — A Maine judge has rejected state regulators’ approval of Plum Creek Timber Co.’s sprawling resort and residential development at the gateway to Maine’s North Woods.

Superior Court Justice Thomas Humphrey took issue today with the way the Land Use Regulation Commission handled parts of its deliberations on the development. The case now goes back to LURC for reconsideration.

Plum Creek’s proposal was approved in 2009, nearly five years after the Seattle-based company announced plans to build two resorts and more than 2,000 housing units near Moosehead Lake.

Lisa Polhman of the Natural Resources Council of Maine applauded the judge’s ruling. She says Maine people were deprived of their right to speak out about the final version of the development plan.
