The event will be held in downtown Skowhegan’s Chamber of Commerce parking lot. The rain-or-shine family fun event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. and will feature many activities for all ages.

A family Geo-caching Word Scramble has been the highlight of the evening. Adventure Bound, Somerset Heart Health, and Skowhegan Savings Bank conduct the event and provide GPS units for families to explore. Three grand prizes will include family fun activity baskets that will be randomly drawn and awarded to three families regardless of return time. All children participating receive a gift bag.

Other activities will include a climbing wall, DJ playing kid-friendly music, Inland Fisheries ‘Wall of Shame’ tour by a Game Warden, Bangor Savings Bank face and nail painting, kid-friendly tattoos, MSS Surrey and Gem car rides, fly-tying instruction, Skowhegan fire truck and ambulance tours, Redington Fairview General Hospital blood-pressure screening, Amber Lambke milling demonstration and flour samples, Skowhegan Farmer’s Market seed planting, KVCAP C&FS fatherhood egg hunt, Children’s Center sensory buckets, kid’s basketball shoot, and more.

Free raffles will include: a rafting trip, compliments of Adventure Bound; a bicycle, compliments of the Skowhegan Recreation Department and New Balance; and a family park pass, compliments of Lake George State Park.

A 50/50 raffle will be held with half the proceeds to benefit the Family Enrichment Council.

The following free food will be available: hot dogs, compliments of the American Legion and Elks Club; popcorn; Cooperative Extension trail mix samples; s’mores by the fire pit; Hannaford snack samples and more. Bangor Savings Bank sponsors a bake sale table; proceeds will benefit the Family Enrichment Council.

In addition to the sponsors listed above, this free event is also made possible by: Franklin Savings Bank, SAPPI, Wal-Mart, Eagles Auxiliary No. 1457, Skowhegan Chamber of Commerce, Skowhegan Police Department, the Skowhegan Rotary Club, Aubuchon Hardware, The Bankery, Variety Drug, M’s Thai, The Blueberry Cupboard, Russakoff Jewelers, Lynette’s Card and Gifts, Skowhegan Fleuriste, Key Appliance, Prudential Insurance, Computer Improvements, From Nana to You, and Lacasse Shoe Repair.

Skowpendous Family Fun Night began five years ago as collaboration between KVCAP’s Family Enrichment Council, Main Street Skowhegan, downtown businesses, service organizations, and individual volunteers. The event is held to promote awareness for National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. With due respect to children and families, this is a non-smoking event.
