Gov. Paul LePage’s repeated displays of contemptuous arrogance toward those whose opinions do not reflect his own have, in my view, negative consequences for our children’s psychological and moral development.

Children are significantly affected by people in positions of power, especially those who frequently appear in the media.

Essential qualities of tolerance, receptivity toward constructive feedback, ownership and willingness to admit mistakes and rectify them, humility and willingness to learn and grow are conspicuously absent from LePage’s behavior.

The next time LePage speaks, he would do well to consider the responsibility he has as a role model for our children.
