PORTLAND — The Monmouth Academy Decathlon Team recently competed in the State Academic Decathlon Championship at Deering High School, where they finished as the State of Maine Runner-up School and as the State of Maine Champion in the Small School Division.

Alternate team members were Nik Foulke; Kerstin Schkrioba; Nicole Nugent; Justin Knaus-Tucker; Marinna Smith, who received the bronze medal in art; Kevin Anderson, bronze medal in language/literature; Danielle Bumann, bronze medal in language/literature; Brain Nugent, gold medal in essay; Angie Bechard, gold medal in language/literature; Crystal Blair, bronze medal in art and silver medal in music; and Cameron Copeland, bronze medals in mathematics and economics and gold medal in music.

Competition team members were Hayden Koller, the highest individual superquiz scorer in Maine; Amanda Blundon, who received a bronze medal in interview; Julia Destefano, silver medal in speech; Kelsey Goentzel, gold medal and only perfect score in the state for interview; Tim Gates, bronze medal in social science and silver medal in economics; Kristine Kahl, gold medal in interview; Amy Nacca, bronze medals in social science, language/literature and art; Mackenzie Kelley, bronze medal in art, silver medal in music, and gold medal in speech; and Matt Bryant, bronze medals in language/literature, economics, essay and speech and silver medal in social science and third highest individual honor scorer in Maine and first highest individual team scorer.

The team is coached by Cathy Foyt and Scott Foyt.
