Army Reserve Spec. Michelle L. DiTomaso is returning to the United States after a deployment to Iraq serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

DiTomaso, a military police member with four years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 94th Military Police Company, based out of Londonderry, N.H.

She is the daughter of Diane Markham of Gardiner and the late Frank Farrell and a 2000 graduate of Monmouth High School. She received an associate’s degree in 2004 from Central Maine Community College, Lewiston.

Army Pfc. Glenn S. Smith has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Smith is the son of Nicoletta Smith of Pittston and a 2006 graduate of Gardiner Area High School.
