I just finished reading David Offer’s column in the July 5 newspaper. I am thankful that he is no longer the executive editor of my newspaper.
What drivel.
First, he states that he had planned to use his column to lament that President Barack Obama may have been kidnapped by aliens, Republicans or Sarah Palin. Tongue in cheek, he wanted Obama released, “so he could flex his muscles.” This he did in his last news conference.
If the president eased up on vacations, playing golf and basketball and continually campaigning for re-election, he might find the time to lead.
When Vice President Biden can find more than $1 trillion worth of possible spending cuts, Obama should have no difficulty slashing $250 billion, to cut our deficit spending. Why hasn’t he done it?
No, the president and Offer talk about million-dollar cuts in corporate jet taxes and millions more in horse racing tax breaks.
Millions of dollars in savings is not what is required. We have to cut $250 billion per year to end our dependence of borrowed money — our deficit spending.
We can’t solve our problems by merely nibbling around the edges.
Raising taxes is not the answer, seriously cutting spending is.
Why not start by trimming Obama’s “corporate jet” fleet? It costs us well over $1 billion per year to maintain it.
