WINTHROP — Levi Hooper, 16, a student at Winthrop High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 604, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.

Hooper joined Cub Scouts in the second grade as a Wolf Scout and after earning the Arrow of Light, went on to Boy Scouts at the age of 10. He has received 42 merit badges, World Conservation Award, Den Chief Award and his first Eagle Palm. He has attended five years of summer camp and has trained to be a counselor. Hooper has spent more than 60 nights camping, and is Red Cross first aid certified and American Heart Association CPR certified. He is scribe in his troop and is a brother of the Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle Scout project, Hooper created a 24-foot raised bed veterans memorial garden that included lighting for a flag and a dedication stone. Hooper raised more than $4,500, and spent more than 125 hours working on the project.

Hooper plans to work as a counselor at a local Boy Scout camp this summer. He is the son of Randy and Bethany Hooper of Winthrop.
