A man wearing a ski mask robbed Exit 7 Mr. Mikes Mobil station in South Portland at knife point at about 10:50 p.m. Friday night.

The man entered the store at 697 Main St. behind a clerk, who had just taken out the trash. He then put a knife to the stomach of the clerk, the only employee on duty, and demanded she give him the safe bag, said store manager Amber Miles.

When the clerk hesitated, the assailant appeared to get agitated and talked louder, said Miles, who reviewed security cameras.

He then walked the clerk to the register, grabbed the safe bag and took off, said Miles. She would not say how much money was stolen.

Miles said the man wore a long-sleeve orange shirt, a ski mask and khaki pants, and had light brown hair and four letters tattooed on his neck. He was about 6 feet.

South Portland police said the suspect has a muscular build and is likely in his mid- to late-20s. The knees of his pants were stained with dirt of grease, suggesting he works at a construction site or as a mechanic.

Police Sergeant Joe Dell’Aquila said dogs tracked a scent, but the police did not find a suspect.

Miles said this was the first robbery of the store in its roughly 15 years in business.
