CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire highway officials say the historic Memorial Bridge linking Portsmouth and Kittery, Maine, will be closing during the day next week for repairs.

The bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 26 and 27. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be allowed to cross the bridge during the inspection.

Officials say the inspection will not interfere with boat traffic on the Piscataqua River.

Two other bridges linking the two states — including one on I-95 – may be used as alternate routes.

The truss lift bridge opened in 1923. It had to be shut down for a month in late 2009 for emergency repairs.
