RICHMOND — Two New Yorkers were injured today in a rollover on Interstate 295.

State police shut down the northbound lane to allow a LifeFlight helicopter to land on the pavement and transport the injured.

State Trooper Timothy Black said April Grigajtis, 29, of West Seneca, N.Y. was taken by helicopter to the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with possible internal injuries. The driver of the a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo, Joseph Marciano, 30, of Williamsville, N.Y., had minor injuries.

“The female was more serious, but she was alert and conscious,” Blake said Saturday. “He had some cuts and bruises and was up and walking around.”

The accident occurred in the northbound lane at 1:16 p.m. around mile marker 45 in Richmond.

Blake said Marciano swerved the car to avoid two loose dogs in the roadway, which caused the car to roll over.

He said Marciano and Grigajtis were wearing seatbelts.
