WESTBROOK — Apple Valley finished the 15-year-old Babe Ruth state championship undefeated with an 18-9 win over Franklin County on Sunday to earn a berth in the New England Regional Tournament.

The New England tournament will take place in Farmington starting Friday. Franklin County also qualified for the tournament as the host team.

On Sunday, Apple Valley scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to break the game open. Josh Bunker pitched in relief and was effective in slowing down Franklin County’s offense.

Brady Dion had a triple for Apple Valley, while Tucker Whittman and Drew Gosselin each had multiple hits. Sam Godfrey and Carson Dalheim both drove in a pair of runs.

Apple Valley went 3-0 in the tournament. It beat Franklin County 4-2 in its first game of the tournament Thursday, then beat Westbrook 8-1 Saturday.

Ryan Greenman had three hits and Andrew Pratt two RBIs for Franklin County.

Franklin County won its opener, 16-8 before losing to Apple Valley. It came back to win twice Saturday, beating Midcoast 7-6 and Westbrook 4-3.

Franklin County and Apple Valley will face off in the first round of the New England tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hippach Field in Farmington.
