AUGUSTA — A city apartment building was damaged Sunday when a fire broke out on an upper-level porch.

Augusta Fire Battalion Chief Daniel Guimond said someone walked into the fire station around 1:30 p.m., to report the fire to a porch attached to the building at 373 Water Street.

The fire in one corner of the top-level porch was partly extinguished by residents, Guimond said.

Firefighters quickly doused remaining hot spots and made sure the fire did not spread.

The fire caused minor damage to a support post and floor of the porch, Guimond said.

A report of the incident did not indicate how the fire started, but Guimond said it was unintentional.
