KITTERY — The first towns in Maine visited by most people entering the state are trying to decide whether to sell fireworks and if they do how those sales should be governed.
On Jan. 1 a new law will take effect that will allow the sale and use of commercial fireworks in Maine.

Kittery Town Manager Jon Carter and York Town Manager Rob Yandow say they’ve been approached by fireworks manufacturers interested in opening retail stores in their communities.
Carter says Kittery is considering what kind of restrictions would be placed on fireworks vendors and what kind of fee the town might charge.
Yandow tells the Portsmouth Herald he intends to bring the matter to the York selectmen this fall.
