AUGUSTA — Augusta rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, then scored two in the top of the 10th, only to have Brewer score three runs in the bottom of the 10th for a 12-11 victory in American Legion Baseball state tournament action Saturday.

Gayton Post defeated Bangor, 8-7, earlier in the day. Gayton will face Brewer at noon, tomorrow, and Augusta will play the winner at 3:30 p.m. for the state championship.

Augusta trailed 9-6 entering the top of the ninth, but got within a run on a two-run homer by Jason Burns. Augusta got two more runners on base, and then when Ryan Minoty struck out with two out, the throw to first hit Minoty in the helmet and Nick Lucas scored the tying run.

Augusta’s David Clough threw 5 2/3 strong innings of relief. Between Friday’s and Saturday’s games, Clough threw 214 pitches.
