Many friends of art traveled to downtown Waterville on Saturday to celebrate the 42nd year of Arts Fest despite the sweltering heat.

It takes guts, determination, sacrifice and true loyalty to walk the blistering sidewalks to view paintings in spite of sweat trickling down, fog gathering in sunglasses, excess thirst caused by the beating sun overhead. Those determined onlookers managed to compliment, encourage the artists shaded under protective tents, even purchase their works.

I hope we all may celebrate the past as well as hope for Arts Fest in the future. Artists are the antennas of society.
